Showplace To Host Important Fine Art And Design Auction On October 8

(MENAFN- USA Art News) Showplace in New York will hold the autumn edition of its Important Fine Art and Design Auction on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 11 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The sale will feature a diverse array of fine art, sculpture, collectible design, and decorative arts sourced from prominent estates and collections in New York and beyond. The selection spans over a century of art history, including works by figures such as J.M.W. Turner, Fernand Léger, and Theodoros Stamos.

Among the highlighted lots is J.M.W. Turner's undated watercolor, Oberwesel and Schonburg Castle, which originated from approximately 50 works created after his 1817 tour of the Rhine. This piece also has a notable provenance, having belonged to Walter Fawkes, a close friend and patron of Turner.

Fernand Léger's Les Plongeurs ( 1941 ) is also featured, revisiting one of the French modernist pioneer's recurring themes,“The Divers.” The work can be traced directly to the artist's own studio. Another highlight is James Brooks's G ( 1951 ), which exemplifies the Abstract Expressionist's gestural approach and use of unconventional supports like Osnaburg cloth. This painting has an extensive exhibition history, including a 1975 retrospective that traveled to institutions such as the Guild Hall, the Flint Institute of Arts, and the Parrish Art Museum.

Sculptural works include Clement Meadmore's Split Ring ( 1969 ), a black-painted aluminum and steel piece that transforms geometric forms into a dynamic, twisting composition. Theodoros Stamos's Infinity Field Torino V #3 ( 1987 ) from his“Infinity Field” series will also be offered. This work distills natural forms into expansive, simplified fields of color, reflecting the Abstract Expressionist's late-career focus on creating potent atmospheres.

Amos Balaish, president and owner of Auctions at Showplace, stated,“We are excited to present such a broad range of important works to the market. As we've grown, I'm proud that Auctions at Showplace has become a destination for serious collectors to find value and quality.”

The auction will also include works by Spanish American painter Esteban Vicente, a significant member of the New York School known for his refined compositions and sophisticated approach to color.
