Ukraine Begins Sowing Winter Grain Crops

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) That is according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, Ukrinform reports.

As of September 16, winter wheat and triticale had been sown on 145,300 hectares, or 3.2% of the projected area; winter barley on 13,000 hectares, or 2.2%; and winter rye on 13,300 hectares, or 17.3% of the projected area.

The leading regions in terms of winter grain sowing are Poltava region, where 46,100 hectares have been sown, including 43,700 hectares of winter wheat and triticale and 2,400 hectares of winter rye; Chernihiv region, where 18,600 hectares have been sown, including 13,600 hectares of winter wheat and triticale, 4,500 hectares of winter rye and 500 hectares of winter barley; and Dnipropetrovsk region, where 14,400 hectares have been sown, including 14,300 hectares of winter wheat and triticale and 100 hectares of rye.

The sowing of winter rapeseed is also progressing at a brisk pace. So far, 837,100 hectares have been sown, accounting for 75.7% of the projected area. The largest areas have been sown in Kirovohrad region (100,500 hectares), Odesa region (98,200 hectares) and Vinnytsia region (75,700 hectares).

As reported, as of September 15, farmers in all regions of Ukraine had harvested 6.89 million hectares of grain and leguminous crops, or 59% of the projected area. The harvesting of the main early crops has been completed.
