Ashghal Completes Package 1 Of Al Asmakh Development Project

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed construction on Package 1 of the Al Asmakh Area Development Project in Msheireb and initiated handover procedures, set for completion this year.

The project advances Ashghal's strategy to revitalise historic Central Doha by balancing heritage preservation with modern infrastructure.

Inspecting the site, the President of the Public Works Authority, Engineer Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Meer, stated that Package 1 reflects Ashghal's commitment to safeguarding Doha's historical identity alongside modern development.

He noted that the project spans 78,000sq m and encompasses 73 buildings.

Al-Meer added that works included restoring existing structures, reconstructing select buildings while preserving their heritage character, upgrading service facilities and facades, and modernising infrastructure and internal streets.

Project Manager, Engineer Khalid al-Khamees, confirmed construction is complete, with integrated utility networks, roads, and services established to support all properties.

Highlights included structural reinforcement for preserved landmarks and converting part of the historic“Doha Palace” hotel into a vintage car museum. External facades were restored to their original aesthetic alongside upgraded mechanical, electrical, and drainage networks.

Roadways, pathways, and signage were modernised, with facade upgrades applied to properties facing Souq Waqif and Msheireb to unify visual appeal. The project also delivered five new electrical substations, ensuring building safety, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
