UNODC Delegation Visits Information Fusion Centre In Colombo
The visit coincided with the UNODC-organised regional workshop titled "Maritime Domain Awareness as Digital Evidence." The 29 member delegation comprised representatives from the Navy, Coast Guard and government institutions of Bangladesh, India, Maldives and Sri Lanka, who are engaged in Maritime Domain Awareness and maritime security-related activities at IFC.
During the visit, the participants were provided with an overview of the role and functions of IFC Colombo, including the collection, analysis, fusion and dissemination of maritime information. Particular attention was given to how MDA data can be systematically collected, analyzed and preserved for potential use as digital evidence in support of maritime law enforcement and investigations.
Ms. Sigi Song, Regional Programme Coordinator UNODC, and Vice Admiral G. Ashok Kumar (Retd.), Advisor, Bay of Bengal Programme – Inter-Governmental Organisation (BOBP-IGO) were present on this occasion.
