Putin Aide: Poland Could Cease to Exist Within Days in War With Russia
(MENAFN) Russian presidential aide Nikolay Patrushev claimed Tuesday that Polish statehood could be wiped out within two or three days should Poland find itself in a military conflict with Russia.
The remark came in response to comments from Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who had suggested his country could swiftly defeat Russia in the event of armed conflict between the two nations. Speaking to Russian newspaper Argumenty i Fakty, Patrushev argued that Russia has yet to deploy its full military strength in the war in Ukraine.
“Speaking about Poland’s military superiority over Russia, Sikorski apparently does not realize that if Poland engages in military action against Russia, our country will use the entire arsenal of forces and means at its disposal, and Polish statehood will cease to exist within two or three days,” he said.
Patrushev's comments followed remarks Sikorski made at the Yalta European Strategy conference in Kyiv, where he asserted that Poland and its allies would make quick work of Russia in the event of a Russian attack.
“If Russia attacked us and we took our gloves off, I think we would defeat Russia quite quickly,” Sikorski said. “We have an undisputed advantage over Russia in terms of air power.”
Sikorski subsequently clarified that his comments had been aimed at a potential clash between NATO and Russia, not a conflict involving Poland alone.
