Zelensky Calls For Support For Graham's Bill And Tougher European Sanctions Following Latest Russian Attacks

“Each of these strikes is about the lives of ordinary people who must be protected by forcing Russia to stop this senseless war. And no concessions to the aggressor in the form of weakened sanctions will certainly not lead to peace. And right now, as we speak, an important bill by Lindsey Graham is under consideration in the U.S. Congress-one that can send the right signals and help take the right steps toward true peace. Discussions are also underway in the EU regarding the extension of sanctions against Russia for its own war,” Zelensky said.

He noted that at a time when such brutal killings are taking place every day, it is important that the sanctions imposed in response to Russia's war be strong.

“This is not the time to ease the pressure. It is time to do everything possible to ensure that diplomacy works through strength. Thank you to everyone who understands this and is helping,” the President said.

He also recalled that this morning, the Russians struck a regular intercity minibus near Nikopol with an FPV drone. According to him, as of now, five people are known to have been killed, and seven more are receiving medical care.“There is no military logic to this-it's just another act of brutality. My condolences to the families and loved ones,” said the head of state.

He noted that Russian attacks on logistics and critical infrastructure continue: in the Mykolaiv region, a locomotive of a regular passenger train was struck. The train station and the diesel locomotive sustained damage, but, as the President said, the Ukrzaliznytsia team responded effectively-they warned people in time, and there were no casualties. Nearly 170 passengers were evacuated. An electric locomotive was also struck in Kovel. Firefighters have been battling a blaze in Kyiv since last night. The Kherson, Donetsk, and Poltava regions were also under fire.

As reported, a bill on“hellish sanctions” against Russia passed a procedural vote in the U.S. Congress. The procedural resolution, which included the sanctions bill against Russia actively promoted by the late Republican Senator from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, passed with 214 lawmakers voting in favor and 211 against, paving the way for debate and a final vote on the bill.

Votes on procedural rules are typically seen as a test of party loyalty regarding specific bills.
