Lebanon, Israel Envoys Meet in Washington to Revive Stalled Peace Track
(MENAFN) Ambassadors from Lebanon and Israel to the United States opened talks in Washington, DC on Tuesday in a bid to break a deadlock in the US-brokered diplomatic process between the two countries, a Lebanese official source told media.
The source said the two envoys "will discuss developments in Lebanon and the mechanism for implementing the framework agreement," reached back in June.
The Washington meeting comes as a separate round of Israeli-Lebanese negotiations, originally slated for this week in Rome, has been pushed back to October.
High-level talks between the two countries formally began on April 14, 2026, marked by a historic US-sponsored meeting held at the US State Department. Those negotiations have covered a range of issues, including a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, border security arrangements, and the status of prisoners and missing persons.
The diplomatic process reached a major milestone on June 26, when Lebanon and Israel signed a US-sponsored framework agreement in Washington. The deal outlines a phased Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, paired with the deployment of the Lebanese Army in areas vacated by Israeli forces.
