CENTCOM Holds Military Talks with Regional Chiefs in Germany
(MENAFN) The US Central Command (CENTCOM) hosted senior military leaders from eight countries at a scheduled conference in Germany last week, according to a US official.
"The leaders discussed opportunities for enhancing security cooperation in the Middle East," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The official did not disclose the participating countries or provide details about the specific issues addressed during the meeting.
According to reports, the gathering included military chiefs of staff from Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt.
The reports said the US military leadership told participants that American forces would remain in the Middle East despite Iranian attacks on US bases. The group was also briefed on US plans to increase maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
The meeting took place as tensions between Iran and the US remained elevated over the strategic waterway. The discussions also came after a memorandum signed in June outlined plans for an agreement aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz as part of broader peace efforts.
At the same time, Houthi forces had intensified attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and continued advancing toward greater control of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
