Canadian Man Faces Charge Over Alleged Threat Against Prime Minister
(MENAFN) A man in Calgary has been arrested and charged after allegedly making online threats against the life of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, according to reports Tuesday.
Canadian authorities said they received information on July 28 about a YouTube account that had allegedly published threats targeting the prime minister.
The case was investigated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Federal Policing Northwest Region Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, known as INSET, in coordination with the Calgary Police Service.
Authorities arrested Jamie Dacosta, 31, and charged him with uttering a threat to cause death, according to reports. Police have not identified the YouTube account involved, specified when the alleged threats were uploaded or confirmed that Dacosta was the person operating the account.
Dacosta remains in custody and was scheduled to appear Tuesday before the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary.
