Egypt, Greece Kick Off Medusa-15 Military Drill in Mediterranean
(MENAFN) Egypt and Greece kicked off their Medusa-15 joint military exercise Tuesday, the Egyptian army announced.
According to a military statement, the exercise will run for several days across the Mediterranean Sea and multiple Greek air bases. The drill brings together naval, air, air defense, reconnaissance and special forces units from both countries, including paratroopers and commandos.
France, Italy and the Greek Cypriot administration are also taking part, the statement said.
Training got underway as Egyptian and Greek naval forces conducted a passage exercise en route to Greece, paired with theoretical and hands-on preparatory activities designed to align combat doctrine and share expertise among the participating nations, according to the statement.
The exercise is set to cover a range of activities focused on managing naval and air combat operations against diverse threats. Organizers said it will also feature live-fire drills and training aimed at countering unconventional threats, showcasing what the statement described as the advanced training level and professionalism of the forces involved.
Egypt and Greece have held the Medusa exercise together since it was first launched in December 2015.
