Vessel Hit by Unknown Projectile in Strait of Hormuz, UKMTO Reports

(MENAFN) A ship was struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the UK Maritime Trade Operations center (UKMTO) said Tuesday, in the latest sign of escalating danger along the critical shipping route.

In a time-delayed report, UKMTO said a verified source confirmed the vessel was struck at 2040 GMT on Monday. No damage or environmental impact has been reported so far, and authorities are investigating the incident, the agency said.

UKMTO urged vessels transiting the strait to exercise heightened caution and to promptly report any suspicious activity in the area.

The strike comes as maritime tensions surge in and around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most vital oil chokepoints, amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran and the US.
