DeepSeek Engineer Raises Concerns Over Anthropic Control of Advanced AI
(MENAFN) A Chinese engineer working for DeepSeek has compared the possibility of US artificial intelligence company Anthropic gaining control over the world’s most advanced AI to Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany obtaining nuclear weapons before the Allied powers.
In a Chinese-language blog post, Liu Shengyu, a machine-learning systems engineer involved in DeepSeek’s V4.1 model, said he was skeptical that Anthropic or OpenAI would make frontier AI "open and affordable." He contrasted their approach with DeepSeek’s focus on open-source AI models.
Liu’s remarks come as concerns grow among AI executives and researchers in the United States over the rapid development of increasingly powerful systems and the possibility that future AI could eventually operate beyond human control.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently called for the pace of AI development to be reduced and for stronger monitoring measures. He also suggested that independent third-party evaluators should be placed within leading AI companies, while stressing that any regulatory response should avoid "sacrificing commercial advantage."
Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon resigned the previous week after accusing major AI companies of failing to act responsibly. Following his departure, Anthropic alignment-science lead Evan Hubinger said he personally estimated that the risk of AI causing human extinction was greater than 10% over the next decade.
"I believe cutting-edge intelligence should be made available to everyone in an open and affordable manner," Liu said.
