Ukraine Strikes Refinery, Drone Plant as Russia Reports Wide Damage
(MENAFN) A wave of Ukrainian missile and drone strikes swept across multiple Russian regions in the early hours of Tuesday, with Kyiv confirming it had hit an oil refinery and a drone manufacturing facility, while Russian officials reported damage to homes, industrial sites, and commercial buildings.
Rostov Governor Yury Slyusar described the assault as a “massive missile attack,” noting that the city of Taganrog bore the brunt of the damage.
Writing on Telegram, Slyusar listed the sites affected: an educational institution, a commercial building, a gas pipeline, agricultural storage facilities, a grocery store, and a warehouse belonging to Ozon. Taganrog Mayor Svetlana Kambaeva added that five apartment buildings sustained damage as well, though she reported no casualties.
Separate reports pointed to damage near the Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex, though regional officials had not immediately verified the scope or details of that strike.
Ukraine's General Staff confirmed its forces had targeted the Atlant Aero plant in Taganrog, identifying it as a drone manufacturing site.
Further east, in the Samara region, air defenses shot down more than 40 drones overnight, according to Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev. He said an industrial site and a number of residential buildings were damaged but confirmed no fatalities.
Ukraine's General Staff also claimed responsibility for a strike on the Syzran oil refinery, reporting that it sparked a fire and caused damage to a crude oil distillation unit along with storage tanks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed both the Syzran refinery strike and the hit on the Taganrog drone facility. He added that Ukrainian forces had also struck a drone staging and launch site in the Oryol region, along with additional targets in the Black Sea.
In the Voronezh region, Governor Alexander Gusev said the overnight attack shattered windows at a municipal building and damaged the roofs and facades of four private homes. He reported no injuries or deaths.
On the other side of the front, Russia's Defense Ministry said its forces had carried out coordinated drone strikes against logistics hubs and ports inside Ukraine, as well as vessels it accused of supporting the Ukrainian military.
In the Odesa region, the ministry said a logistics center used to store and distribute military cargo shipped in from abroad was struck in the settlement of Velyka Balka.
At the port of Chornomorsk, the ministry said strikes also hit a dry cargo vessel and a ferry it claimed had been used to deliver supplies to Ukrainian forces.
The ministry further stated that Russian forces continued targeting railway infrastructure in western Ukraine, which it said is used to move military cargo shipped in from European nations.
