Libya Shuts Down Oil Operations Following Pipeline Closure
(MENAFN) Libya's National Oil Corporation has suspended production and operations at three oil sites after members of the Petroleum Facilities Guard shut a valve on the Al-Hamada–Zawiya pipeline in western Libya, according to reports.
The Petroleum Facilities Guard is a state-affiliated security force responsible for protecting key energy infrastructure across the country.
The National Oil Corporation said the pipeline closure triggered a sharp rise in pressure within production lines, forcing the company to halt operations at the affected sites.
The corporation warned that it may have to declare “force majeure” if the valve remains closed or if similar disruptions result in additional oilfield shutdowns.
It also cautioned that extended interruptions at oilfields could place further pressure on Libya's economy and undermine the government's ability to meet its financial commitments.
The latest disruption highlights the vulnerability of Libya's oil production and transportation infrastructure to interruptions affecting the country's vital energy sector.
