Attacked Oil Tanker Towed to Omani Port; Two Crew Still Missing
(MENAFN) An oil tanker struck off the coast of Oman has been towed to a port within the Sultanate, though two crew members remain unaccounted for, the Omani Maritime Security Center reported Tuesday.
According to the center, the Panama-flagged vessel ELGAIA was brought to an Omani port after an engine room fire broke out in the wake of an attack roughly 103 nautical miles (191 kilometers) northeast of Musandam Governorate.
An Omani Royal Navy vessel rescued 23 crew members and administered medical care as needed, the center said, adding that search efforts are ongoing for the two crew members still missing following Monday's attack.
Separately, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued its own advisory Tuesday, reporting that a vessel had been hit by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz at 2040 GMT on Monday.
UKMTO reported no resulting damage or environmental impact and did not name the vessel involved, leaving unclear whether the advisory referred to the ELGAIA incident or a separate attack.
