Russia Calls for Action on Trump Energy Ceasefire Proposal
(MENAFN) Russia said Tuesday that statements concerning US President Donald Trump's proposed energy ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv need to be followed by concrete measures, according to reports.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a briefing in Yekaterinburg that Moscow had already communicated its position through the Kremlin and that she did not believe additional comments were necessary.
“Now, the most important thing is for these declarations to be translated into action,” Zakharova said during the briefing, held on the sidelines of the 2026 International Festival of Youth.
She said Russia has consistently respected ceasefires announced during the conflict, while claiming that the same cannot be said about Kyiv.
“Therefore, all words must be backed by concrete actions that back them up,” Zakharova added.
Trump announced Monday on Truth Social that Moscow and Kyiv had agreed not to target each other's energy infrastructure. He also linked a recent rise in global diesel prices primarily to the conflict that began in February 2022.
The Kremlin said earlier Tuesday that it supports Trump's ceasefire proposal and confirmed that Russian and US officials remain in contact over the initiative.
