Trump Criticizes Supreme Court Over Mail Ballot Decision
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump criticized the Supreme Court on Tuesday after the justices declined to permit the US Postal Service to introduce stricter requirements for mail-in ballots ahead of the closely watched midterm elections.
"This Supreme Court is bullied and cajoled by the Radical Left into making decisions that have set America back at least a hundred years," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
The ruling issued Monday was supported by Justices Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh, all of whom were appointed to the Supreme Court by Trump during his first term.
“These are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court, they are merely a shell of their original selves,” he wrote.
“It is not easy for me to write this criticism of the United States Supreme Court - it will likely cost me dearly for years to come - but I feel it my obligation and duty.”
The Supreme Court rejected the administration's request to allow new postal regulations concerning the handling of federal election ballots by mail to take effect before the midterm elections, which are scheduled for Nov. 3.
"The Government is unlikely to succeed on the merits of its challenge to the District Court’s preliminary injunction," said the court,
The decision leaves the existing rules in place as election officials prepare for the upcoming vote.
