Oman, US Discuss Steps to Promote Regional De-Escalation


(MENAFN) Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed regional developments and diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions during a phone conversation Tuesday evening, according to reports.

The two officials exchanged views on ways to limit the consequences of rising tensions and establish conditions that would allow diplomatic efforts to continue addressing unresolved issues, with the broader aim of supporting regional security and stability.

Their discussion also covered a number of regional developments and other issues of shared interest.

Regarding bilateral ties, Albusaidi and Rubio emphasized the importance of strengthening existing cooperation, advancing common interests and continuing regular consultation and coordination between Muscat and Washington.

Rubio also recognized Oman's role in efforts to reduce tensions across the region and condemned recent Iranian attacks against commercial vessels and countries in the area, according to reports.

"He reiterated the United States’ commitment to ensuring that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon and to freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. He expressed support for deepening ties between Oman and the United States," the statement added.
