Russian Strategic Bombers Complete Scheduled Flight Over Northern Seas
(MENAFN) Russian Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers carried out a planned flight over international waters in the Barents and Norwegian seas, according to reports citing the Russian Defense Ministry.
The mission continued for approximately five hours, the ministry said.
Russian Navy Su-33 fighter aircraft accompanied the bombers during the operation, while foreign fighter jets also followed the strategic aircraft at certain points along their route.
The Tu-95MS, designated Bear-H by NATO, is a long-range strategic bomber designed to carry cruise missiles and serve as a major component of Russia's strategic aviation capabilities.
According to the ministry, Russian long-range aviation crews routinely conduct missions over international waters in several regions, including the Arctic, North Atlantic, Pacific, Baltic and Black seas.
“All flights of Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft are carried out in strict accordance with international rules governing the use of airspace,” the ministry said.
