Abbas Begins Official Visit to Egypt for Regional Talks
(MENAFN) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for an official two-day visit focused on the Palestinian cause and wider regional developments, according to reports.
Abbas was welcomed at Cairo International Airport by Egyptian Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk, along with a number of Egyptian and Palestinian officials.
He is due to hold talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday. The discussions are expected to cover the latest developments involving the Palestinian issue, as well as Arab and international matters of shared concern.
The two leaders are also expected to discuss Egypt's efforts, alongside regional and international partners, to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians and contribute to rebuilding areas heavily damaged by the ongoing war.
The visit comes as Egypt intensifies diplomatic consultations over developments across the region.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is also in Cairo, where he is scheduled to meet with al-Sisi on Tuesday for discussions on regional issues and bilateral relations.
During his stay, Abbas is additionally expected to meet Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy at the organization's headquarters.
The Palestinian president is traveling with Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh, Palestinian National Council Chairman Rawhi Fattouh, Fatah Central Committee member and intelligence chief Majed Faraj, along with other Palestinian officials.
