Fidan Calls for Restoring Stability in Strait of Hormuz
(MENAFN) Türkiye is calling for the Strait of Hormuz to remain open to safe, continuous and unrestricted navigation, while urging a rapid return to the conditions that existed before the war, according to reports.
Speaking during a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku on Tuesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said developments in neighboring Iran have a direct impact on both Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
“Iran’s security, stability, and prosperity naturally have a direct impact on our region. In this regard, we want the current conflict to be resolved through diplomatic means as soon as possible,” he said.
Fidan warned that the escalation of reciprocal attacks has weakened diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis and urged an immediate halt to measures that could contribute to wider regional instability.
“At the same time, safe, uninterrupted and free passage through the Strait of Hormuz must be allowed, and the pre-war status quo must be restored as soon as possible,” he said, adding that Türkiye remains in continuous contact with all relevant parties to help resolve the crisis.
Fidan also addressed the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, stressing that Türkiye has undertaken extensive diplomatic efforts since the war began to prevent hostilities from spreading into the Black Sea.
He further warned against any developments that could broaden the conflict and create additional security risks across the region.
