Today's markets analysis on behalf of Thadeu Dos Santos, Regional Director at Infinox
(MENAFN- Your Mind Media ) Crude oil prices remained near their recent highs as the market contends with tighter supply after the c’osure of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline. The latter helped alleviate the impact of disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz until now. The ongoing threats to energy infrastructure in the Middle East and a prolonged closure of the pipeline could keep markets on edge.
While Riyadh could move to increase exports through the Strait of Hormuz, traffic remains vulnerable to conditions in the waterway, where navigation is still severely constrained. The shift could help maintain exports to a certain extent while pipeline repairs continue, easing some of the physical tightness. However, any further deterioration in maritime security could quickly disrupt any additional flows and undermine the relief they could provide.
Looking ahead, crude prices are likely to remain closely tied to developments across the region. Any clear diplomatic progress and a return to talks could help limit supply concerns and clear the way for a reopening of the Hormuz. However, ongoing incidents and any escalation in attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure could push crude prices further still.
