Zelensky Claims Russia Tried Twice To Attack His Plane With Drones

“My presidential plane was in Moldova – and that's why they attacked Moldova,” Zelensky said.“When we were coming back home, again through Chișinău, they did the same thing.”

On the return trip, one or two drones entered Moldovan airspace, a detail that had not previously been reported, Zelensky said.

The President said he considers the incident part of Russia's strategy to intimidate him and other foreign leaders.

He also spoke about a Russian drone strike on a passenger train near the Ukrainian-Polish border. Foreign senior officials were on board, including former CIA Director David Petraeus.

“Maybe they didn't know that some Americans were there, or maybe, on the contrary, they knew... I don't trust them. I think they knew,” Zelensky said.“That's exactly why they attacked – because there were Europeans, Americans, a large delegation on that train.”

As previously reported by Ukrinform, on Wednesday, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said that a drone had posed a danger to Zelensky's plane while it was traveling from Moldova to Oslo.

On September 8, Moldova's Ministry of Defense reported that it had detected a Shahed drone at 4:20 p.m. The drone headed toward Chișinău and left the country through the Ungheni district, having spent 17 minutes in Moldovan airspace. The same drone later returned from the direction of Romania and crashed near the village of Starye Mikhaileni in the Rîșcani district, causing a field fire.
