The Ukrainian foreign minister emphasized that Russia is carrying out systematic attacks aimed at disrupting logistics; in particular, last night a locomotive was hit in Volyn, near the border with Poland, during a Russian strike.

In total, since the start of the full-scale invasion, more than 500 locomotives have been damaged or completely destroyed as a result of Russian attacks; more than half of them were lost this year alone, Sybiha emphasized.

He stressed that Ukrzaliznytsia ensures the country's vital functions and has become a key element of economic and social stability for Ukrainians.

“To keep this lifeline running, Ukraine urgently needs replacements. We call on all our partners to urgently assist us in finding locomotives compatible with the 1520 mm gauge as well as in financing to accelerate the procurement of new ones,” the minister stated.

As reported by Ukrinform, a diesel locomotive caught fire in the Volyn region on the night of September 15 as a result of a Russian strike.

On September 13, the Russian army attacked a passenger train locomotive two kilometers from the border with Poland.
