One Day Of War Costs Ukraine $190 Million - Pidlasa

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukrinform reports this, citing Roksolana Pidlasa, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Budget Committee, in a Facebook post.

“Why is the war becoming more expensive? A larger army; more military families whom the state guarantees support; and the need for more weapons - primarily medium- and long-range strike weapons capable of hitting Russian oil refineries that finance this war,” Pidlasa said.

Commenting on budget execution, she noted that over the first eight months, national security and defense expenditures amounted to nearly $42 billion (excluding in-kind military assistance), while“we raised only $39 billion in domestic resources (revenues + domestic government bonds), so we are no longer even covering our own share of the expenditures that we used to cover.”

Meanwhile, Russia is deliberately targeting the sectors that generate budget revenues. Domestic and import VAT revenues in Ukraine fell $1.35 billion short of the target over the first eight months, with a quarter of this shortfall occurring in August alone.

“In the first six months of 2026, [Russia] spent a record $123 billion on its war against Ukraine, is producing more missiles and drones than ever before during the full-scale invasion, and is deliberately targeting the sectors that generate revenue for our budget,” the lawmaker added.

She stressed that $190 million a day is far from the upper limit.

“Expenditures will continue to rise, and this is another purely pragmatic reason why the United States and Europe must act faster to force it to stop this war,” the Budget Committee chair said.

As reported, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense currently faces a $27 billion budget shortfall. At the same time, Ukraine expects €30 billion in European funding to be allocated to defense, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
