Egypt Backs Saudi Arabia, Warns Houthi Attacks Threaten Regional Stability

(MENAFN) Egypt has reaffirmed its support for Saudi Arabia following recent Houthi drone and missile attacks on Saudi territory, stressing Tuesday that the security interests of Cairo and Riyadh are closely tied and cannot be separated.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry expressed its “full solidarity and complete support” for Saudi Arabia in confronting any threats to its security. The declaration followed attacks that reportedly injured at least 13 civilians in parts of southwestern Saudi Arabia.

“The attacks constitute a clear violation of the rules and provisions of international law and a blatant threat to regional stability and security,” the ministry said.

Cairo also reiterated its “categorical rejection” of the Houthi attacks and warned that continued strikes could further intensify tensions and contribute to a broader escalation across the region.

“The national security of Egypt and Saudi Arabia is interconnected, integrated and inseparable,” it stressed.

Earlier Tuesday, Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition backing Yemen’s internationally recognized government, said Houthi attacks had injured 13 civilians in Khamis Mushait, Abha and Taif.

The latest escalation comes as the Houthis have reportedly expanded their presence along sections of Yemen’s Red Sea coastline in recent days, including Mayyun Island near the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

The developments add to concerns over the wider regional implications of the prolonged conflict in Yemen, particularly as fighting and cross-border attacks continue to affect neighboring states.

Yemen’s war began in September 2014 after the Houthis captured the capital, Sanaa, along with several provinces. In March 2015, a Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in support of Yemen’s internationally recognized government, turning the conflict into a prolonged regional confrontation.
