Kim Jong Un Voices Confidence in Russian "Victory," State Media Says
(MENAFN) North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pledged unwavering backing for Russia and voiced confidence in Moscow's triumph in what he called a "sacred war," according to state media reports Tuesday.
The remarks came in a message Kim sent Sunday to Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to Putin's congratulations marking the 78th founding anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), a state-run news agency reported.
"Being firmly convinced of the victory of the Russian Federation in the present sacred war to defend the national security interests and the international justice, I promise my invariable support to you, dear friend, and the fraternal Russian people," Kim said.
He added that North Korea and Russia were "continuously writing a new biography of the great history of alliance," while deepening their unity and "protecting justice and peace together."
Kim said his government's resolve to "expand and deepen" ties with Moscow remained "steadfast without doubt," pointing to the two nations' long traditions of friendship, good neighborliness and mutual assistance.
Ties between Pyongyang and Moscow have grown considerably closer since the two countries signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty in June 2024 — a pact that includes a mutual defense clause obligating either side to provide military support if the other comes under armed attack.
