Ukraine Strikes Russian Refinery, Drone Plant in Overnight Barrage
(MENAFN) Kyiv unleashed a wave of missile and drone strikes across multiple Russian regions early Tuesday, hitting an oil refinery and a drone manufacturing plant, while Russian officials reported damage to homes, businesses and industrial sites.
Rostov Governor Yury Slyusar said the region endured a "massive missile attack," with the city of Taganrog bearing the brunt of the damage.
Writing on Telegram, Slyusar listed an educational institution, a commercial building, a gas pipeline, agricultural warehouses, a grocery store and an Ozon warehouse among the sites hit. Taganrog Mayor Svetlana Kambaeva said the strikes also damaged five apartment buildings, though she reported no casualties.
Additional reports pointed to damage near the Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex, though regional officials had not immediately verified the scope of that damage.
Ukraine's General Staff confirmed its forces had targeted the Atlant Aero plant in Taganrog, which it identified as a drone manufacturing site.
Further east, Samara Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said air defenses downed more than 40 drones overnight, with an industrial facility and several homes sustaining damage but no fatalities recorded.
Ukraine's military said it also struck the Syzran oil refinery, sparking a fire and damaging a crude distillation unit along with storage tanks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed both the Syzran refinery strike and the Taganrog drone facility attack, adding that Ukrainian forces had also hit a drone staging and launch site in the Oryol region as well as targets in the Black Sea.
In the Voronezh region, Governor Alexander Gusev reported broken windows at a municipal building and damage to the roofs and facades of four private homes, with no injuries reported.
Russia's Defense Ministry, meanwhile, said its own forces had launched coordinated drone strikes on Ukrainian logistics hubs, ports and vessels linked to Ukraine's military. In the Odesa region, the ministry said it struck a logistics center in Velyka Balka used to store and distribute military cargo shipped in from abroad.
At the port of Chornomorsk, the ministry said it had also hit a dry cargo vessel and a ferry allegedly used to deliver cargo for Ukraine's armed forces. Russian forces additionally continued targeting railway infrastructure in western Ukraine used to move military supplies from European countries, according to the ministry.
