'Slaves Of BJP': DMK Slams TVK Over Cases Against Party Leaders
Earlier, DMK MP Raja had withdrawn his remarks following a backlash over the comments.
Speaking to IANS, DMK spokesperson T.K.S. Elangovan said: "In politics, people will criticise others. They are filing cases against this criticism."
"When our Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin had listed the crimes that took place in Tamil Nadu and asked what action the Chief Minister had taken against the criminals, there was no reply. Even while replying, he (CM Vijay) did not touch upon it. So, his intention is not to arrest criminals. His intention is to arrest only political leaders, particularly DMK leaders, because their 'boss' has instructed them to speak against the DMK and file cases against it. That is why they had arrested our LoP also," he said.
Elangovan was referring to Udhayanidhi Stalin's arrest on August 4 for alleged misogynist remarks. He was later released on the same day.
Further, the DMK spokesperson remarked: "This is the TVK; they are the slaves of the BJP. Because BJP is anti-DMK, they (TVK) only want to do whatever the BJP says."
Previously, a controversy erupted after the Opposition party accused CM Vijay and Law Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar of insulting the sacrifices of DMK leaders and those who were imprisoned during the Emergency.
Senior DMK leaders P.K. Sekar Babu and R.S. Bharathi strongly criticised the Chief Minister during the protests held in different parts of Tamil Nadu.
However, Raja's remarks targeting CM Vijay and Nirmal Kumar triggered a fresh political row and shifted attention away from the DMK's allegations against the government.
Several TVK functionaries and ministers condemned the MP's comments, describing them as personal, offensive and unbecoming of a senior parliamentarian.
