Saudi Arabia Advances Nuclear Energy Project as Planned

(MENAFN) Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud says the kingdom’s national nuclear energy program is progressing according to schedule, emphasizing that nuclear power is becoming an increasingly important component of the country’s overall energy strategy.

Speaking at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s General Conference in Vienna, the minister says global energy consumption is rising rapidly as economic activity, technological development and industrial expansion accelerate.

“Diversifying energy sources and ensuring their reliability and sustainability have become necessary to support economic growth and energy security,” he says.

He also highlights Saudi Arabia’s role in international energy markets, saying: “Saudi Arabia has consolidated its position as a reliable source of energy and an active partner in global energy markets, while continuing to invest its various resources in the energy and minerals sectors,”

The minister adds: “The Kingdom is moving ahead with building a comprehensive national energy mix, including nuclear energy, to benefit from available resources,”

Prince Abdulaziz also stresses that Riyadh is not pursuing its nuclear ambitions “in isolation from the international community.” Instead, he says the kingdom continues to develop its domestic nuclear and regulatory capabilities while maintaining transparent cooperation with international partners across the energy and minerals sectors.
