Egypt, Greece Begin Mediterranean Military Drill with Regional Partners
(MENAFN) Egypt and Greece have launched the Medusa-15 joint military exercise in the Mediterranean, bringing together naval, air and specialized military units from the two countries alongside forces from several other participating states.
The Egyptian army said Tuesday that the multinational training will continue for several days across the Mediterranean Sea and at a number of Greek air bases. The exercise involves naval and air forces, air defense units, reconnaissance teams and special forces, including paratroopers and commandos.
Military personnel from France, Italy and the Greek Cypriot administration are also taking part in the drill, according to the statement, expanding the exercise beyond the two principal participants.
The training opened with Egyptian and Greek naval forces conducting a passage exercise while traveling toward Greece. The initial phase also included theoretical and practical preparations designed to establish common operational concepts and allow participating forces to exchange military experience and expertise.
Further stages of the exercise are expected to focus on coordinated naval and air combat operations and responses to a range of potential threats. The participating forces will also conduct live-fire drills and exercises addressing unconventional threats, highlighting the emphasis on operational readiness and coordination.
The Medusa series of military exercises between Egypt and Greece was first launched in December 2015 and has since developed into a recurring platform for military cooperation and joint training between the participating forces.
