Iran's Araghchi Set for China Visit Ahead of Xi's US Trip

(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to China for a one-day visit Wednesday, holding talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi just days before Chinese President Xi Jinping departs for the United States, China's Foreign Ministry announced Tuesday.

Wang last welcomed Araghchi to Beijing in May, ahead of Trump's summit with Xi.
Wednesday's meeting will be their second in-person encounter in the Chinese capital since the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on Feb. 28.

The two foreign ministers also crossed paths at the BRICS summit in New Delhi over the weekend, where they were seen briefly conversing on the sidelines.

The US and Israel carried out large-scale attacks on Iran in February, striking government buildings, military installations, missile infrastructure, and air defense systems. Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and US bases across the region.

The conflict has since spread further across the region, even as diplomatic efforts continue in a bid to end the hostilities.
