Bangsamoro Awaits Final Results from Historic Parliamentary Election
(MENAFN) Final results were still pending Tuesday as election officials continued counting ballots from the first parliamentary election held in the majority-Muslim Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in the southern Philippines.
Partial, unofficial figures showed the Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) and the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) among the leading political groups, although the final distribution of seats remained unclear as additional ballots were being counted.
The election, held Monday, represents a major political milestone for the autonomous region and is expected to determine the membership of its first elected parliament. The new legislative body will replace the interim administration currently governed by the Bangsamoro Transition Authority.
The parliamentary vote is part of the region’s broader transition toward an elected political system, with the outcome expected to shape the future leadership and governance of Bangsamoro.
Around 2.39 million voters were registered for the election across 5,212 polling precincts throughout the autonomous region. Authorities continued the counting process as political parties and candidates awaited the official results.
