Trump Defends US Authority Over AI Industry, Warns of China Advantage

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump says Washington has broad authority to regulate artificial intelligence companies, while arguing that efforts targeting the country's AI infrastructure could ultimately strengthen China's position in the global technology race.

"The only control or 'guardrails' that AI needs is a strong and smart (high IQ!) president, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades," Trump wrote on Monday on his social media platform, pushing back against calls for tighter government oversight of the industry.

Trump said his administration has already taken steps to stop technology executives from pursuing initiatives he considers harmful. He specifically criticized Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, accusing him of presenting himself as a "perfect little angel" during the growing debate over how quickly advanced AI should be developed.

The president also said the US government has "tremendous criminal and regulatory power" over technology companies. He accused critics of engaging in what he described as a "sick conspiracy" targeting AI systems and data centers, arguing that such efforts primarily serve China's interests.

Trump further warned against what he called "conspiracy theorists, treasonists, traitors, and leakers," while maintaining that the US remains ahead of its international competitors in artificial intelligence.

He reinforced his view that maintaining technological leadership is essential, declaring that "whoever wins AI, wins!"

Trump later argued that the debate surrounding artificial intelligence and data centers is largely taking place because the US is "leading, by a lot, every other country."
