Türkiye Condemns Greek Remarks on Anatolia, Calls for Restraint
(MENAFN) Türkiye has rejected recent statements from Greek officials regarding the historical period when Greece attempted to advance into and occupy parts of Anatolia, calling on Athens to approach the issue with greater seriousness and restraint.
“We reject the baseless statements by the Greek authorities concerning the period when Greece was attempting to occupy and invade Anatolia, and call on Greek officials to exercise seriousness and common sense,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry referred to what it described as massacres and widespread destruction inflicted on civilians in Anatolia by Greek forces during the period in question.
It also said Greece had previously recognized responsibility for those actions and acknowledged an obligation to provide reparations under Article 59 of the Treaty of Lausanne.
