B’Tselem Says Israeli Policies Target Palestinian Presence in West Bank
(MENAFN) Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem says a coordinated set of Israeli policies is being used to weaken and ultimately remove the Palestinian presence from the occupied West Bank.
The group says five interconnected mechanisms are operating together to dismantle Palestinian communities while expanding what it describes as a permanent and continuous Israeli-Jewish presence and control across the territory.
According to B’Tselem, Israeli policy in the occupied West Bank shifted significantly at the end of 2022, with measures involving territorial control, violence and displacement becoming more visible and increasingly intensified.
“What Palestinians in the West Bank are experiencing is part of a single political project that permeates every aspect of life,” B’Tselem Executive Director Yuli Novak said.
Novak said Palestinian communities are facing displacement, worsening economic conditions and persistent fear of attacks by Israeli forces and settlers.
The organization identified “violence and terror” as the first of the five mechanisms it says are being used. It described this approach as involving Israeli forces and armed settlers who allegedly seek to pressure Palestinians through intimidation, violence and coercion.
