Israeli Airstrike Damages MSF Bus in Gaza City, Injures Worker
(MENAFN) An Israeli airstrike damaged a Doctors Without Borders (MSF) bus in Gaza City, leaving one member of the organization’s staff injured, according to the medical charity on Monday.
The organization said the bus was transporting 10 humanitarian workers when an Israeli strike hit a vehicle being targeted just two meters (6.5 feet) from the bus on Sept. 13. The group said the humanitarian vehicle was clearly marked and carried a large MSF logo on its roof, making its affiliation readily identifiable.
MSF said the incident demonstrated the dangers facing humanitarian personnel working across Gaza, where medical and relief teams continue to operate amid the ongoing conflict. The organization stressed that humanitarian workers and health care personnel should be protected while carrying out their duties and that marked medical and aid vehicles must not be targeted.
“Once again, Israeli forces have shown a blatant disregard for the safety of humanitarian and medical personnel,” MSF said.
The group also warned that no area in Gaza could be considered safe, while calling for greater protection for civilians, health workers and humanitarian personnel operating throughout the enclave. It further urged all parties to spare vehicles that are clearly identified as belonging to medical and humanitarian organizations.
According to the latest figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement had killed 1,372 Palestinians and injured another 4,659 as of Monday. The figures reflect the continued casualties reported despite the truce.
Since Oct. 8, 2023, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,000 others injured in Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, according to the ministry. The prolonged conflict has also caused extensive destruction across the enclave, with around 90% of its infrastructure reported to have been damaged or destroyed.
