Real Betis Rally to Beat Villarreal, Move into Third Place

(MENAFN) Real Betis completed a comeback victory away to Villarreal on Monday, overturning an early deficit to secure a 2-1 win and climb to third place in the La Liga standings, while their hosts slipped into the relegation zone.

Villarreal opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Gerard Moreno produced a clever finish after Renato Veiga headed the ball down inside the penalty area, giving the home side an early advantage.

Betis quickly responded, however, leveling the contest just 10 minutes later. Cucho Hernandez reacted fastest after the ball fell to him inside the box and sent a low shot into the net to bring the visitors back on level terms.

The turnaround was completed only four minutes after the equalizer. Natan picked up a loose ball inside the penalty area before sending a low effort inside the right post, putting Betis ahead for the first time.

Villarreal attempted to find a response after the break, but neither side managed to add another goal. Betis held firm through the remainder of the match to secure all three points.

The victory moved Real Betis into third place in La Liga, while Villarreal’s defeat left them in the relegation zone.
