Poland Stands Down Jets After Russian Drone Strikes Near Border
(MENAFN) Poland has wound down military aviation operations that were launched in response to Russian drone strikes on western Ukraine, the Polish Armed Forces announced early Tuesday.
Ground-based air defense units and radar reconnaissance systems have likewise stood down from heightened alert, returning to standard operations, the military said.
"We inform that no violation of the airspace of the Republic of Poland has been recorded," the Armed Forces stated.
The activity followed an earlier announcement from Poland that it had scrambled military aircraft after Russian jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles struck targets inside Ukraine. Polish forces said they continue to monitor the situation closely and remain prepared to respond immediately should the need arise.
In Ukraine's capital, a drone hit a petrol station early Tuesday, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
As a NATO member bordering Ukraine, Poland has repeatedly raised its air defense and aviation readiness whenever Russian strikes have landed near its borders.
