Ammonia Leak Injures Workers in Southern Jordan

(MENAFN) Eleven people experience suffocation after an ammonia gas leak occurs during maintenance operations at an industrial facility in Aqaba, southern Jordan, according to authorities.

The incident takes place around midday on Monday as workers carry out maintenance on an older pump or pressure-related piece of equipment at the complex.

According to reports, ammonia had accumulated at the site, leading to a limited release of the gas while the maintenance work was underway.

Emergency teams bring the leak under control shortly afterward, while specialized technical crews inspect the area and confirm that the issue has been resolved. Civil defense and security personnel also remain present at the location.

The affected individuals suffer symptoms ranging from mild to moderate suffocation. Some receive medical attention at the facility’s clinic, while others are transferred to a hospital for further treatment.
