Poland Ends Air Operations After Russian Drone Strikes on Ukraine

(MENAFN) Poland has concluded military aviation operations carried out after Russian drone attacks targeted areas in western Ukraine, with the country’s armed forces saying Tuesday that heightened defensive measures were no longer required.

Polish ground-based air defense units and radar reconnaissance systems have also returned to their normal operating procedures following the period of increased readiness. "We inform that no violation of the airspace of the Republic of Poland has been recorded," the military said.

The Polish Armed Forces had earlier deployed military aircraft over Polish territory after Russian jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles conducted strikes against targets in Ukraine. The move was described as a precautionary measure amid concerns over the proximity of the attacks to Poland’s border.

During the heightened alert, Polish forces monitored developments closely and maintained their readiness to respond rapidly if the situation posed a threat to Polish territory or airspace. Authorities continued tracking the movement of Russian drones and assessing any potential risks linked to the ongoing attacks.

The Russian strikes also affected the Ukrainian capital, where a drone hit a petrol station in Kyiv early Tuesday, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The incident came as Russian forces continued conducting drone operations against targets across Ukraine.

Poland, which is a member of NATO and borders Ukraine, has repeatedly raised the readiness of its air defense systems and military aviation when Russian attacks have taken place near its territory. Such measures are intended to monitor potential threats and ensure Polish forces can react quickly should an incident affect the country’s airspace.
