Ukraine's Air Assault Forces Ditch Outdated Soviet-Era Equipment In Training Recruits

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Major Volodymyr Baiduzhyi, head of the training and laboratory support group at the 199th Training Center of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces, said this in an interview with Ukrinfor.

“We have completely abandoned both methods and equipment that have lost their relevance in modern warfare. For example, we have minimized the use of heavy, immobile systems – stationary surface-to-air missile systems, conventional powerful local electronic warfare systems, and heavy towed artillery – which have become easy targets for the enemy amid the widespread dominance of drones,” Baiduzhyi said.

According to him, outdated Soviet communications equipment has also been decommissioned or moved into the category of historical exhibits, as the military has fully switched to digital protection.

“At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the material and technical base was predominantly Soviet-designed, with only a small share of changes introduced based on the experience gained before February 24, 2022. Today, by contrast, it is a combination of the latest Western and Ukrainian technologies,” the officer added.

Baiduzhyi noted that the training center now has a large number of modern training systems, simulators, and other equipment that had not previously been used in basic military or specialized training. This helps reduce ammunition consumption and the use of live weapons without compromising the quality of training.
