Mexico Rejects Foreign Interference In Internal Affairs: President

(MENAFN- IANS) Mexico City, Sep 15 (IANS) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated that her government will not allow foreign intervention or interference in the country's internal affairs, saying relations with the United States must be based on coordination without subordination.

Speaking at her daily press conference on Monday, Sheinbaum criticised those who, she said, support foreign intervention, including some sectors in the United States and among Mexico's opposition.

"We will always defend the principle that there should be no intervention, no interference, only coordination, and without subordination," she said. "That will always be our position, by principle, by history, by conviction and because the Constitution says so."

Citing an opinion poll showing that 91 per cent of respondents opposed intervention, she said it is "essential to ask who benefits from spreading the idea that Mexicans think otherwise," accusing some US sectors and right-wing media of seeking intervention, Xinhua news agency reported.

Meanwhile, the Mexican government's proposed economic package for 2027 offers a more realistic macroeconomic outlook by revising down its growth expectations, but it raises concerns over public debt, the Center for Economic Studies of the Private Sector (CEESP) said Monday.

In its weekly economic analysis, CEESP noted that the proposed budget, submitted to Congress last week, downgraded growth forecasts for 2026 and 2027, bringing them closer to estimates made by financial analysts and other national and international institutions.

"This adjustment to the macroeconomic framework variables reflects a more realistic outlook," CEESP said, though it cautioned that the budget figures still contain elements of optimism.

The Mexican government has been pursuing fiscal consolidation for years, hoping to gradually reduce the deficit and stabilise public debt by avoiding an increasing reliance on borrowing to finance spending.
