FM Sybiha On Recruitment Of Russian Agents In Germany: I Urge European Governments To Take This Threat Seriously
He expressed admiration for the courage of RTL's German investigative journalist Angelique Geray, who, while undercover, exposed a network of covert recruitment of Russian agents in Germany.
“The results are shocking. Undercover agents recruited via Telegram for cash, surveillance and sabotage taskings, and threats made against the journalist. This is the scale of what we're up against,” Sybiha noted.
The minister emphasized that the RTL investigation is not an isolated incident but part of a broader system of Russian sabotage operations across Europe.
“Putin invests heavily in destabilising Germany and other European nations, especially ahead of elections. He sees himself at war with Europe and aims to win it by undermining European states from within,” the diplomat stressed.
Russia's goal is to interfere in the internal affairs of states, manipulate public opinion, and exploit the most sensitive and divisive issues to deepen social divisions, explained the Ukrainian foreign minister.
He called on European governments to expose Russia's harmful influence and take urgent and decisive measures against Russia's presence in Europe: close Russian diplomatic and cultural missions, impose sanctions on all those involved, ban all Russian propaganda, strengthen cooperation in the field of counterintelligence, and take other countermeasures.

As previously reported, Angelique Geray, a journalist for the German broadcaster RTL, maintained a social media account for months posing as a pro-Russian blogger. She was later contacted by Russian recruiters who offered her tasks in exchange for payment in cryptocurrency.
