Israeli Attacks Injure Palestinians in Gaza Despite Ceasefire
(MENAFN) At least 21 Palestinians, including four children, were injured in a series of Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Monday despite a ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since last October, according to medical sources and local reports.
In Gaza City, 10 Palestinians were wounded when an Israeli strike hit a tent on Al-Wahda Street in the central part of the city. Two of those injured were reported to be in critical condition and were receiving medical care.
Witnesses said the strike struck a crowded area where displaced Palestinians were sheltering in tents near Al-Wafa Hospital. The attack caused injuries among people in the surrounding area as the latest violence continued despite the existing truce.
In another incident in southern Gaza, eight Palestinians, including four children, were injured after an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a gathering of civilians near a tent housing displaced people in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis.
Two of those wounded in the Al-Mawasi attack were also described as being in critical condition. They were transferred to Nasser Hospital, where they were receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
A separate incident was reported east of Khan Younis, where a young Palestinian man sustained moderate injuries after Israeli military vehicles opened fire in the area. Medical personnel at Al-Amal Hospital treated the injured man following the shooting.
Witnesses said Israeli military vehicles also opened heavy fire toward homes and tents occupied by displaced Palestinians in areas east and south of Khan Younis, adding to the insecurity faced by civilians living in temporary shelters.
In central Gaza, two additional injured Palestinians were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital after an Israeli drone targeted a gathering of civilians on Salah al-Din Street, east of Al-Zawaida. The incident added to a series of attacks reported across different parts of the enclave during the day.
The latest injuries come amid continued violations of the ceasefire. Gaza’s Health Ministry said Monday that Israeli violations of the agreement have killed 1,372 Palestinians and injured 4,659 others since the ceasefire took effect.
The broader toll from the conflict remains significantly higher. Since Oct. 8, 2023, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,000 injured, according to figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry.
The prolonged conflict has also caused extensive destruction across Gaza, with around 90% of the enclave’s infrastructure reported to have been destroyed or severely damaged. The latest attacks have therefore added further casualties to an already extensive humanitarian toll despite the continuation of the ceasefire.
