Kushner Claims US Uses Israel’s Isolation to Advance Gaza Deal
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump’s envoy and son-in-law Jared Kushner said Washington took advantage of growing international pressure on Israel after its 2025 strike in Doha, Qatar, to encourage the Israeli government to accept a Gaza ceasefire and hostage-release agreement.
“Israel did the strike in Doha, which was a terrible thing,” Kushner said. “It was unsuccessful as a military operation, and that led to Israel being globally isolated.”
He said the United States used the resulting diplomatic pressure to accelerate negotiations over an agreement that had already been under discussion for several months.
“And we used that dynamic in order to push them into a deal that now, today, they’re quite happy with,” he said.
The Israeli airstrike, carried out on Sept. 9, 2025, targeted a residential compound in Doha’s Leqtaifiya district, where senior Hamas figures had gathered to discuss a US-backed proposal aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza.
The targeted Hamas leaders survived the attack, turning the operation into an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate senior members of the group.
Five Hamas members and aides were killed in the strike, including the son of senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya. A 22-year-old officer from Qatar’s Internal Security Force was also killed.
