Israel Advances Settlement Expansion Plans Across Occupied West Bank
(MENAFN) Israel has moved forward with dozens of settlement plans across the occupied West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, as efforts to expand illegal settlements continue to accelerate.
According to reports, 153 settlement plans have been advanced since the beginning of 2026, with the projects collectively targeting the construction of more than 18,000 housing units.
Palestinian monitoring authorities described the pace of planning as unusually high, warning that the activity reflects continued efforts to expand settlements across occupied territory.
Of the total, 100 plans covering the West Bank outside East Jerusalem involve around 12,300 housing units and were advanced between the start of the year and Sept. 13.
Another 53 plans concern occupied East Jerusalem and include 5,783 housing units within areas under the boundaries of the Israeli municipality.
Settlement planning also accelerated during September, with Israeli authorities advancing 12 additional plans involving 2,340 housing units across a combined area of 1,761 dunams.
Earlier monitoring found that Israeli planning bodies had examined 524 structural plans for settlements between Oct. 7, 2023, and June 30, 2026.
Settlement expansion has intensified under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government since it took office in late 2022. During that period, authorities have approved the creation of 104 new illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.
