EU Denounces Russian Strikes Near Ukraine-Poland Border
(MENAFN) The European Union has strongly denounced recent Russian strikes near the border between Ukraine and Poland, including an attack involving a passenger train reportedly carrying former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other European officials.
EU Commission spokesperson Anouar El Anouni said the bloc viewed the latest incidents as a serious escalation and reaffirmed its support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
"We strongly condemn the latest Russian strikes near the Ukraine-Poland border, including the attack on a passenger train," El Anouni said in a written statement.
The comments came after a privately chartered train traveling from Kyiv toward Poland was reportedly evacuated following a nearby Russian drone attack. Johnson and several European officials were aboard the train at the time.
El Anouni also highlighted the EU’s recent approval of €6.1 billion ($7 billion) in assistance aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air and missile defense capabilities.
"We will continue to stand firmly with Ukraine’s right to defend itself against Russian aggression," he said.
