Heavy Rains Force Thousands to Evacuate Across Southern China
(MENAFN) More than 31,000 people have been moved to safer locations in China’s southern Hainan province as persistent heavy rainfall continues to affect large parts of the island.
By Sunday evening, authorities had relocated 31,564 residents, while no major disasters had been reported, according to reports citing the provincial disaster prevention, mitigation and relief committee.
Over the previous three days, rainfall surpassed 300 millimeters in 24 townships across six cities and counties. Changfeng Township in Wanning county recorded the highest level, with accumulated rainfall reaching 452 millimeters.
Weather authorities expect additional heavy rain to continue through Monday, raising concerns over further flooding and related hazards.
In response to the worsening conditions, authorities have temporarily closed schools and tourist attractions in several areas and introduced traffic restrictions on roads affected by the rainfall.
Emergency preparations have also been strengthened, with fire and rescue teams stationed at strategic locations. Additional personnel and drainage equipment have been sent to Wanning, Qionghai and Lingshui counties to support local response efforts.
