Roketsan Tests Sungur Missile From Burc Mobile Air Defense System
(MENAFN) Turkish defense company Roketsan successfully carried out a live-fire test of its Sungur air defense missile from the Burc mobile air defense system, demonstrating the platform’s ability to engage and destroy a moving target.
The successful trial represents another step in the development of Türkiye’s layered air defense capabilities, highlighting efforts to combine different detection, tracking and engagement technologies within mobile systems designed to respond to aerial threats.
During the latest test, the Sungur missile was launched from the Burc system and successfully struck a moving target. The demonstration was intended to showcase the system’s operational capabilities and its ability to provide effective protection against potential threats on the battlefield.
Burc is a next-generation mobile air defense platform developed to combine multiple weapons and sensing technologies in a single system. Its configuration integrates the Sungur missile with a 20/30-millimeter cannon, supported by both active and passive sensors designed to improve target detection and engagement capabilities.
The integration of the Sungur missile provides the system with a short-range air defense capability, while the cannon adds another layer of firepower for engaging suitable aerial targets. The combination is intended to give mobile units greater flexibility when responding to different types of threats.
The shoulder-launched Sungur missile was developed for short-range air defense missions, providing protection for mobile and fixed military units as well as critical facilities operating in battlefield environments. The missile has an effective range of more than eight kilometers, or approximately five miles.
Sungur was also designed with integration flexibility in mind, allowing the missile system to be incorporated into different platforms according to operational requirements. This adaptability enables the technology to support a range of air defense configurations.
The latest test therefore highlights Roketsan’s continued work on integrating the Sungur missile into more advanced mobile air defense platforms and strengthening the overall capabilities of Türkiye’s layered air defense architecture.
